Best Memorial Day Sales for 2023

Memorial Day weekend is when the pools open, the grills are fired up, and the sales are super. Spend this weekend outdoors and with your loved ones, not the mall. The best Memorial Day sales are online, and I have collected what I believe to be the best deals. I have included exclusive discount codes for brands that can often be used in conjunction with whatever Memorial Day weekend sale promotion is taking place! Spoiler alert, I have a promo code for Universal Standard for Memorial Day weekend! Keep reading…

The Best Memorial Day Sales for 2024

I picked what I believe are the best deals for the best brands for us grown women. Retailers I shop and trust, and brands you all tell me often are your go-to favorites. I've also added some suggestions of what to buy and what I personally own and love from the different stores.

Fashion and Accessories

Alison in the ABLE green linen blazer and shorts with a slub knit tee and tan leather tote
Wearing the ABLE linen blazer (XL), shorts (14), and Everyday Tee (XL) with the ABLE Mamuye tote and big buckle Birks

ABLE

ABLE, the sustainable fashion brand that goes up to size 3X, has up to 75% off sitewide this weekend with code WEEKEND30. I recently tried a few pieces from the brand and like the quality and design, though I found the linen blazer sleeves a bit snug on my full upper arms, and I got a 14 in the linen shorts and should have sized down. This tee isn't bright white, but it's a fab weight and slub knit that isn't transparent; I'm tempted to also get it in black.

Adidas

Adidas has 30% off through 5/28 with promo code SUMMER. Get Sporty Spice on with Adidas Adibreak pants, available in 10 colors up to 2XL with tall options too. Aquaslides make for great summer houseshoes with a bit of arch support. Looking for a colorful shoe update? Check out the Gazelle and the Superstar XLG.

Charles Perri of Wardrobe Oxygen in the Ann Taylor Floral Jacquard sweater tank dress in a pink and red floral. She has a matching cardigan tied around her shoulders and is wearing bone colored pointed toe boots.
I got this Ann Taylor dress and cardigan set in March and while the cardigan is sold out, the dress is on sale, still available in a few sizes and is an amazing price right now. I'm wearing XLP.

Ann Taylor

I've been loving me some Ann Taylor lately (hello petites over a size 10!) and this weekend, Ann Taylor has 40% off everything, sitewide and in stores, full price and sale. Linen is still a big trend this summer, and blends don't get as wrinkled while still being breathable. From Ann Taylor's linen collection I'm loving this dress, this shirtdress, this midi skirt, this shell with this skirt or any bottoms in white, black, light blue, or denim. Obsessed with the color of this jacket and matching pants. This dress is a gorgeous color, versatile, and travel-friendly. And I love these pants for work, for polishing up a simple knit top, transitioning from spring to summer to fall, and they too are great for travel (and they're machine washable!).

Alison standing in a fitting room, wearing a brown and ivory print Aurelia dress from Banana Republic with New Balance 327 sneakers and a The Sak black leather crossbody bag
While Banana Republic no longer has this print, it still offers the style (the Aurelia) in several different colors, fabrics, and prints. I highly recommend it. Sneakers are New Balance, adjustable crossbody bag is from The Sak

Banana Republic

Banana Republic has 30% off full-priced items, no code is needed. I appreciate Banana Republic not only carrying up to a size 20 (though more sizes would be WAY better), I appreciate that it's one of the few retailers that carries petite over a size 10. I bought another of the dress in the photo above (the pinky-peach linen as it was the only one left in my size; if you have the emerald in XL or XLP I'll buy it from you!). But I also was eyeing these Tencel/linen pants, this badass necklace, this relaxed ponte blazer, this positively stunning dress, and this hemp/cotton shift dress.

Bare Necessities

Bare Necessities is my favorite place for a great range of sizes, colors, and styles of bras and bra-sized swimwear. This weekend they have up to 40% off at this link.

Alison walking down a sidewalk in the Dupont Circle part of Washington DC, wearing a colorful midi length Boden cotton shirtdress, sunglasses, brown leather flats and a brown leather saddle bag style purse.
This Boden cotton shirtdress is one of the best buys I've ever made. While Boden doesn't have this exact shirtdress anymore, this looks like the same dress but sleeveless, and this sleeved option is similar.

Boden

Boden is 25% off sitewide. Boden is one of those stores I love but rarely can justify the price. Sales like this that are sitewide are when I shop the retailer. Great color, cool prints, and sizes up to 20/22 with some petite and tall options, Boden is like a preppy Farm Rio this summer. I'm eyeing this linen shirtdress, this gorgeous embroidered linen top, and this ponte sundress.

Alison in an orange halter neck maxi dress from COS with red Birkenstocks.
Wearing a COS maxi dress I got last summer and plan to wear again this year!

COS

COS is a favorite for modern styles, cool lines, and reasonable prices for good quality for men and women. I just wish their size range was greater (I fit in their largest size if it's loose or stretchy). COS has 30% off select styles, details on site.

J. Crew

J. Crew has 40% off sitewide through 5/28; no code needed. I think I'll be getting one of these wide stripe tanks which looks dressier than a classic tank and I believe will cover bra straps. This raffia hat is under $35 and looks far more expensive. Grab a pair of these leather flip flops in a metallic for travel, for throwing on at a beach wedding, and at the end of the wedding when your other shoes aren't cutting it. This classic linen shirtdress comes in 5 colors as well as petite and tall. For my fellow petite gals, this 5″ chino short is pretty perfect; for taller friends the 7″ is also lovely and with this sale both styles are under $30. I want this in the stripe to wear with my Spanx a-line shorts. And for those with C and smaller breasts, J. Crew swimsuits are stellar. I am partial to this one-piece bandeau, this one-shoulder one-piece, and this striped number with cap sleeves (all come in long torso).

J. Crew Factory

The entire site is on sale at least 50% off, with some items up to 70% off. J. Crew Factory is fantastic for summer with staples of good quality at great prices in sizes XXS-3X. If you're looking for summer dresses, check out this cotton shirtdress, this cotton midi sundress, this cotton one-shouldered midi dress (the Polynesian print is so Lilly Pulitzer), and this linen blend shift. And this linen blend square neck tank is just what I need for humid DC-area summers!

J.Jill

J.Jill has 30% off full price linen available at this link. I recently went to a mall and was really impressed with the J.Jill collection for this season, and I love that J.Jill goes up to 4XL and carries petites and talls. I am considering getting this dress in green.

Karen Kane

Karen Kane carries sustainable fashion made in the U.S. in Misses and Plus. This weekend Karen Kane has 25% off sitewide with code: MEMORIAL25. Karen Kane is a fantastic place to shop for travel-friendly fabrics, classic but not boring pieces that transcend trends, and amazing not-so-little black dresses.

Lands' End

Lands' End has a few different promotions going on this weekend, but luckily they all use the same promo code. With 60% off swim (with a bunch of new styles and old favorites) and 50% off everything else, this is the time to shop and save with best selection of styles and sizes. Use promo code HONOR. I've written lately about how Lands' End fashion is really great right now, and my favorite Lands' End suits for large busts. I'm kinda obsessed with everything Pink Prism at Lands' End.

Madewell

Madewell has 25% off summer essentials at this link. Use promo code LONGWEEKEND. I'm always looking for scarves long enough to be belts; this one is 41″ square and the colors are fantastic. And this dress is summer perfection available in Misses and Plus.

Nordstrom

Earlier this week, I shared that Nordstrom is having a Half-Yearly Sale with up to 60% off. You can see my picks at this link.

Old Navy

Old Navy has 50% off all shorts, tees, tanks, and swim; the women's items part of this sale are at this link. However, this is a good time to stock up for the whole family. For those of us who wear women sizes, I found some good picks. My trick for reasonably-priced swimwear is spend on the piece that I need to perform (for me, that's the top), and go budget for the other piece. Old Navy has this great swim skirt and high-waisted bottom that come in solids and receive rave reviews. This swim dress also looks great. I also love these 5″ gauze shorts and 3.5″ linen shorts for pulling on over swimsuits, throwing on with a tank or tee for casual looks, and feeling cool and covered all summer.

Alison, Emerson, and Karl Gary in Printfresh organic pajamas
The family who wears Printfresh pajamas together, stays together!

Printfresh

Printfresh is a favorite for size-inclusive organic pajamas as well as dresses, bags, robes, and much more. Sizes XXS-6X with short and long options, Printfresh is offering up to 60% off sale. Also, use code WARDROBE_OXYGEN for 15% off full-price purchases (try it on sale, it sometimes works). Check out my original Printfresh review.

Alison of Wardrobe Oxygen in Soma Cool Nights Pajama Top and Shorts with a black satin full coverage Soma bra
A few months ago, wearing Soma Cool Nights sleep shorts and long-sleeve notch collar shirt with this Soma bra.

Soma

Soma has an extra 30% off markdowns this weekend and no code is needed. This means sleepwear and bras as low as $24.99. I had to take a look and the selection is fab. How gorgeous is this robe and matching pants? If you're looking for a lightweight summer bra that still gives lift, I recommend this one and this one. And it is the season for Cool Nights sleepwear, which is silky smooth and does make me feel cooler while also looking super pretty; I wear an L in Soma sleepwear.

t by talbots review
On top of the sale below on full-priced items, Talbots also has 50% additional off sale merch, which includes this rain jacket, this striped top, and these joggers

Talbots

Through May 27th, get 40% off one item and 30% off the rest of your purchase at Talbots with promo code SUMMER. Talbots is a favorite for this time of year because they're not afraid of color but the pieces are classic style so they remain in my closet for years. My biggest recommendation is the washed linen Nantucket paperbag shorts. Pull-on style, not too short, not too baggy, come in solids and prints, they go with everything and are effortless. This white cotton sundress is positively stunning. So is this gorgeous swim coverup. No one is surprised I love this tee. Talbots makes excellent foot wear; these sandals will go with everything. This gold kitten heel sandal is just the shoe for summer events; here's the same shoe in silver. For outdoor occasions, this low wedge available in gold and silver is perfect.

Universal Standard

Through the 28th, Universal Standard is having 30% off sitewide. This is HUGE; Universal Standard rarely has a sale that includes everything. But I'm going to make it even better for you. Use my code INFS-MDWALISON at checkout and you will get an additional 10% off your order! Y'all know I am very familiar with the size-inclusive fashion brand Wardrobe Oxygen. I am 5'3″ and 14, sometimes 16. I have a large bust, soft belly, and a round booty with strong, solid legs. My thoughts on what to consider during this amazing Universal Standard Memorial Day sale:

  • Every summer I am grateful for having Universal Standard Next to Naked athleisure pieces in my wardrobe. The Bodyshort is a favorite for water activities when I may get wet and sweaty but don't want to wear swimwear. And then, after, I can throw on an oversized shirt and a hat and turn it into casual streetwear. It's also something I can wear without a bra and not feel like I'm hanging to my navel. The Cobalt is just as pretty (a bright purply blue) as it looks on your screen. I appreciate adjustable straps, pockets to hold my iPhone Max, the soft matte fabric that is never transparent, and how it really is close to being naked, even in the heat. If in doubt, size down; I wear an XS in this collection. Here's my original 2021 review of the Universal Standard Next to Naked Bodysuit, which is still in regular rotation in my spring, winter, and fall wardrobes.
  • Speaking of an oversized shirt, I have the Toni shirt and love it with shorts and leggings because it covers the bum without hiding all of my shorts, is shorter in front, not heavy, has a nice drape, and doesn't make me overheat. The sleeves don't roll well because of the fabric but I'm willing to accept that inconvenience for this shirt I love throwing over bathing suits and NTN bodyshorts and tie at the waist and wear with wide-leg linen pants.
  • I know not everyone shares my love for the Sunny shorts, but they are a must for my wardrobe; I own 5 pairs now. My husband even loves them and steals them for runs and Peloton workouts. They don't cling, the pockets are deep, the elastic waist stays in place and doesn't dig, they dry fast, they're long enough to show under an untucked t-shirt, and they're super durable. Read my original Universal Standard Sunny shorts review.
  • Last year, I reviewed the new Universal Standard swimwear, and while I found last year's color (that they discontinued) to be a bit too transparent, I was fascinated with the innovation of the fabrics and design. Last year's Universal Standard bikini is a favorite; I wore it more than any other swimsuit when I visited Curacao and added a similar concept to my Caribbean vacation capsule wardrobe. This year, Universal Standard has a one-piece that I think looks hella chic, and I love the innovation, the bust support, and the adjustable straps. I can't justify buying this (I still rock this Lands' End one-piece), but if I needed a one-piece, I'd be getting this in red. OMG, this suit with the Toni in the same color? Chic. Chic. Chic.
  • I love the Promenade Linen Jumpsuit. The straps are wide enough to hide a lot of bras, the back is smocked so you don't have to unbutton or unzip anything to get out of it, it has pockets, it looks great with the belt but also super great without any belt (snip off those thread loops). I'm 5'3″ and the XS is great on me with 2″ heels. This is easy to have hemmed by your dry cleaner and would also look cute if it ends up cropped on your legs. You can read my original Universal Standard Promenade Linen Jumpsuit review here.
  • A lot of you have asked me about the Sunset Linen Flounce Dress. I found it too much fabric on me but a lot of folks are obsessed with it. Several folks from the Wardrobe Oxygen Community have shared they love it in all the colors, how it dresses up and down, and how you can even switch up the style with a belt. Most are taller than I, but not by much. This dress is worth considering.
  • If you're looking for some go-to dresses, the Cai high-neck tank dress is that kind you can wear with a denim jacket and sneakers one day, metallic sandals and gold hoops with a clutch the next, with a straw hat and walking sandals and a crossbody the day after, and with a relaxed blazer or duster cardigan and flats on Monday.
  • If I was going on vacation with the girls, I'd pack the one-shoulder Geneva Dress. I could throw it over a swimsuit as a coverup, pair it with Birkenstocks and a straw hat for daytime, with metallic sandals and big gold hoops for evening, could even use it as a lounge around the hotel room sort of nightgown. Personally, I love the Black and Deep Pansy for the versatility and drama, but all the colors are fun.
  • It may not be jacket season, but I recently ordered the Precision Parka and was thisclose to keeping it. It was a tad heavier than I needed and wished it had a bit more ventilation, but this is a perfect travel jacket. Repels rain and wind but isn't shiny or stiff. A practical hood that will truly keep your face protected as well as your hair, deep pockets, adjustable anorak waist drawstring, snap side slits to adjust fit and mobility, and gorgeous colors. Who knows, I may change my mind and order it again in the fall. All the colors are great; I ordered Patina and it matched the color I see on my screen.
  • I haven't tried these pants…yet. But the style, plus the raving reviews from folks with similar bodies to mine, it makes me want to order them STAT, especially during this awesome sale and with the added 10% off code!

Beauty and Wellness

Alison holding a jar of Colleen Rothschild radiant cleansing balm while wearing a quilted Printfresh robe
With my beloved Colleen Rothschild Radiant Cleansing Balm, the only face wash I use and what transformed my skin for the better. Shop all my Colleen Rothschild favorites at this link

Colleen Rothschild

I am a huge Colleen Rothschild skincare fan. I have used their cleansing balm since 2016 and since then about 85% of my skincare routine is from the brand. Colleen Rothschild is having their Start of Summer Sale event with $25 Off $100+ with CODE: MAY25 and $50 Off  $200+ with CODE: MAY50. This sale includes their brand new Bio-Azure Replenishing Oil (haven't tried yet, but excited to do so and share my thoughts).

Paula's Choice

Paula's Choice is having 20% off sitewide + with qualifying purchases, you'll get up to $189 worth of gifts. At checkout, use promo code 29YEARS. I have never had a negative reaction or experience with Paula's Choice skincare. Both the mineral and synthetic sunscreens are pretty fantastic; the BHA exfoliant is a cult favorite for a reason, and this lotion really does improve the appearance of skin on legs, arms, decollete, and hands (but be sure to wear sunscreen as it will make you more sun sensitive).

Home and Tech

The eight sleep pod three on a king sized bed owned by Wardrobe Oxygen
Our Eight Sleep Pod 3 cover. It's a mattress cover that can work under other mattress pads but also has a removable cover. The machine is about the size of an old PC tower. The thick cord connects to the top center of the mattress pad, the skinny cord is for power.

Eight Sleep

I still need to write my review of Eight Sleep, but my husband and I got one two years ago and it is the BEST money we have spent for our comfort and sleep quality. You can adjust each side for the perfect warmth or cooling, the temp changes super fast, you can schedule it to preheat or cool before bed and change temps when you're in deep sleep and when you wake. No sound, no breeze, super easy maintenance only needed every few months, quite durable. We have the Pod 3 and think it's fantastic enough that we're not wanting to upgrade yet. The app is super cool and tracks quality of sleep and even how much you snored! Right now all three versions of Eight Sleep are on sale up to $200; I have a code for $150 off; try promo code ALISON to see it may work on top of this Memorial Day sale! And check out my Instagram Highlight circle about my Eight Sleep!

Macy's

Through the 27th, Macy's has up to 60% off furniture, mattresses and rugs. Prices are online at this link. We're talking 30% off sofas and sectionals, up to 60% off outdoor furniture, and up to 60% off mattresses from brands like Sealy, Serta, Hotel by Aireloom, and Paramount.

Rifle Paper Co.

I love the prints of Rifle Paper Co. and find it a great place to find gifts for situations like graduations, teachers, and bridal showers (as well as for myself!). The entire Rifle Paper Co. site is 25% off this weekend with promo code BLOOM25.

If you know of some fabulous sales taking place this weekend, do share in the comments! Also note this was the same link for my 2023 sale picks; instead of leaving old information on Wardrobe Oxygen, I updated this with 2024 promotions taking place.

  1. I have 4 pairs of the Universal Standard Sunny Swim Shorts and just used your link and code to buy 2 more. They’re just the perfect light weight for knocking around the house. Thanks for the extra savings code!

  2. Thank you for such a wonderfully curated list of sales. I also really like it when you include photos of yourself in outfits you’re recommending. I appreciate more brands are selling petites in larger sizes but I’m so tired of only seeing skinny tall women modeling and rarely my body type represented. Thank you for all the work you do!

  3. Dammit I’ve been trying to get one of those Banana Aurelia dresses ever since I first saw you in it and it’s always sold out. Thanks for putting this list together though, lots of good stuff here.

  4. Have you seen the Printfresh Weekend Bag IRL? I am very tempted by the blue Bagheera bag. I need something sturdy to haul around a bunch of thin yoga mats. The size is good and it’s so pretty…

    1. Yes! They sent me one at the holidays and you’re reminding me because I need to figure out where it went. My daughter steals it for sleepovers. It’s quilted kind of like Vera Bradley bags but the colors are bright and beautiful, the straps sturdy, the bag soft but also keeps its shape. I think it’s really nice.
